You simply plug the inverter into a 110volt AC power supply, typically your home socket, and connect the inverter to your battery bank with DC connect cables. AS AC utility power is on it passes through the inverter and runs the electronics attached to it. At the same the power inverters built in charger is charging and maintaining your battery bank. When a power failure occurs the automatic transfer switch takes affect and switches the inverter from running off city power or utility to running off the battery. So when you’re away there is no need to worry if a power failure occurs.
